Mangoseed, the London-based multi-genre group, released their latest album, DREAMERS, on July 2nd of 2021. Being based out of London has had a lot of influence on the sound that Mangoseed presents to its audiences both in their live shows and recorded performances. Having members with Trinidadian, Jamaican, Australian, and Irish heritages has allowed for each member of the band to bring something new to their sound and approaches to music, culminating in a mix of rock, ska, punk, funk, and jungle.

DREAMERS is an 11-track album with its lead single being “Alternative Facts.” Mangoseed makes political commentary several times in DREAMERS and will often make fun of the social and political zeitgeist that we find ourselves in. There is a lot of be said about the state of the world and the status quo today and Mangoseed plans to spearhead these conversations.

“Most of our lives are governed by some kind of political decision that we had nothing to do with. It’s really important to say that out loud and ask questions so we feel with and for people and bring them together. There is healing power in music. You can find bliss in everybody jumping, singing, and dancing together.” – Mangoseed

The band is made up of four members, each coming from different parts of the globe, as mentioned earlier. The drummer, Sam “Irish” Campbell, comes from an Irish heritage, obviously. The guitarist and vocalist, Karlos Coleman, has a Jamaican background. The bassist, Richard Hardy, comes from an Australian and Trinidadian background and the frontman of the group, Nicholai La Barrie, shares in this Trinidadian heritage.

DREAMERS is not the only place where Nicholai La Barrie is making strides in challenging the status quo and the current problematic way of the world. La Barrie also joint curates For the Culture in helping celebrating Black talent.

Be sure to check out Mangoseed’s music on Spotify and Soundcloud and don’t forget to follow the band on social media!
