Cult English singer-songwriter, Paul Roland, is set to return to Italy this August with his three-act contemporary ballet, ‘Nosferatu or the Strange Case of Jonathan Harker’, after his previous performance in Piacenza’s Open Space 360 sold out in April this year. This performance will have the bonus of having a semi-acoustic set with Roland and his Italian band and being performed in a medieval castle, ensuring a much richer atmosphere this time round.
‘Nosferatu and the Strange Case of Jonathan Harker’ is unlike any adaptation of Stoker’s novel that we have ever seen before – instead of focusing on Nosferatu, the story focuses on Jonathan Harker, one of Nosferatu’s alleged victims, and tells a story about Harker’s mind which is filled with a grisly fantasy.
The composer of the ballet, Paul Roland, has collaborated with Cigar Chamber Orchestra on this project. This follows on from the work Roland has done previously with record label, Dark Companion, as he set to record, ‘A Grimms Fantasy for Orchestra’, later this year at the Conservatoire Piacenza.
The composition of ‘Nosferatu or the Strange Case of Jonathan Harker’ is a new direction for Roland, who while keeping his original style, has stepped away from 60s psych-pop. The gothic style of Roland is evident in this ballet, and with decades of music and praise from some publications such as Louder Than War and Uncut, it’ll be of no surprise to anyone if this be performed again in front of a sold-out crowd.
