Founding member of Blood Or Whiskey, Barney Murray and expert musician David Walshe come together to form folk/punk duo, The Winter Codes. With a classic Irish folk feel but with added flair, Winter Codes are the duo for anyone who enjoys Bob Dylan or perhaps fans of The Undertones. With a new single in ‘Too Sly to Die’, released in May of this year, the duo set the stage perfectly for their latest album, ‘Set the Darkness Reeling’, released on August 1st.
‘Set the Darkness Reeling’ is not just their latest album release, but it also serves as a tribute to their third member, Paul Walshe, who passed away ten years ago; demonstrating not only their musical ability and creative expression, but also that their third member will live on forever, making this album important just as much as it is a great piece of music. Made in collaboration with Daithi Meila, from Irish/Bluegrass band Jig Jam, folk singer Lisa Loughrey and engineer Sean Montgomery, Winter Codes have given the album everything it needs to be a success.
Infused with classic Irish folk music throughout, their punk-styling and emotional tribute – as well as recorded in the same legendary Grouse Lodge recording studio that Michael Jackson had used, ‘Set the Darkness Reeling’ promises so much from the pair – especially considering the quality of the release of ‘Too Sly to Die’ as the lead single.
