This release of ‘Barcelona’ is Angela Hench’s latest, and serves as a reminder of her breath-taking talent having already shown us with iconic performances at Croswell Opera House, Opera MODO and The Dio Theatre. Although, she is anything but your run-of-the-mill opera singer.
Trained at Waldorf School, and taking pop-culture influences with the likes of Ru-Paul and Lizzo, Hench has a style that is wholly unique and her own while not straying far from her operatic training. Alongside Hench is Gregory Markel, who makes the seemingly impossible task of replacing Freddie Mercury look quite easy. Best known for being the frontman of prog-rock Altered State and winner of the 2016 Peace Song Award for the song, ‘Surrender Now’, he lends his voice that while is in contrast to Hench, dovetails perfectly to create a song that would please anyone who loves the original.
