Indie rock legends The Kooks have ended their musical hiatus and have announced their sixth full-length studio album.
The Brighton-hailing trio released three singles, ‘Connection’, ‘Modern Days’ and ‘Jesse James’, from the upcoming project, entitled ’10 TRACKS TO ECHO IN THE DARK’.
The band had supposedly taken a break from production in 2018 after large-scale world touring to support material from their record ‘Let’s Go Sunshine’.
Frontman Luke Pritchard told Music Week that he wanted to write an album that represented the trio as a “European band” as their resonance with the continent was hit hard after Brexit.
“The 36-year-old stated: “I started going to Berlin for three or four days at a time. I was really affected by Brexit and I wanted to make a bit of a statement by creating a European record.
“We’re a European band, we practically lived out there and have so much love for Europe, so we wanted to keep that connection.”
Luke continues on the significance of the German capital on it’s resonance to others in the creative field: “A lot of songwriters have found refuge in Berlin. It’s a free place, it’s not so consumed by commerciality. I was looking for something a bit rawer, a little bit more minimal. Sometimes you just pick up these nuances somewhere. It’s not necessarily the people, it’s the place.”
The Kooks’ brand new album, ’10 TRACKS TO ECHO IN THE DARK’ will be released 22nd July 2022.
