In 1989, The Bible returned to the studio with two albums behind them and a growing audience for their melodic, acoustically driven songs. The resulting record, Anticlockwise, was intended to continue that progress. Instead, it went unreleased after being rejected by their record label.
Now scheduled for release in November 2026, the album follows a lengthy absence from the band’s available recordings. The Bible produced the collection themselves, capturing the songwriting and musical approach they had developed through Walking the Ghost Back Home and Eureka.
At the centre of that approach were Boo Hewerdine and Neill MacColl, whose creative partnership helped define the group’s sound. The announcement describes Anticlockwise as combining intricate acoustic arrangements with soulful influences, reflecting the mixture of folk, pop and soul associated with the band. Its recording came after ‘Honey Be Good’ and ‘Graceland’ had helped bring their music to wider attention.
The release will allow listeners to encounter the album that was meant to follow those early records. Rather than a newly recorded return to their 1980s style, Anticlockwise presents music made during that period, finally being brought to an audience decades later.
