Icarus, the youthful alternative metal group from Watford, released their newest single, “Castaway At Best,” today. Icarus got their start in 2020 with the release of their single called “Bleeding Out” which was shortly followed by their EP entitled Undivided Attention. “Castaway At Best” is the group’s first release of 2021 and since Undivided Attention.
The song opens with a much more muffled tone that quickly evolves into a pounding and driving beat with the guitar bass and drums. While maintaining that driving force of a beat, the vocals enter with haunting guitar riffs underneath it which eventually build into the chorus, which is heavily inspired by alternative metal and hard rock groups.
“Castaway At Best” features lyrical content that is often left out in many metal and hard rock songs. This latest song by Icarus emphasizes the importance and acceptance of being comfortable in one’s shoes regardless of whether or not society appreciates and accepts you.
It is super important to the band that their fans enjoy their music and their live shows, especially since they are trying to create something different in the underground metal scene.
“Our band’s average age is 19, we’re much younger than most of the bands on the scene and we’ve already accomplished more than most bands we’ve played with. The main modern metal tropes bore us, and we have such a wide range of musical influences that find their way into our songs. We’re a breath of fresh air for the genres.” – Icarus
