Miami-based artist, Patrick Doval, collaborates with famous former drummer of The Offspring, Pete Parada, on Doval’s latest single, titled “Soulless Machine,” which was released on June 24th. The Miami-based artist connected with Pete Parada on the themes of anti-establishment, since Parada was forcibly removed from playing with The Offspring after not getting the COVID-19 vaccination, which Parada’s doctor advised him not to take at this time because of the drummer’s history with Guillain-Barré Syndrome.
“Soulless Machine” marks the first collaboration between Patrick Doval and Pete Parada despite Doval releases six full-length albums prior to the release of “Soulless Machine.” Hopefully there are many more collaborations between the two artists in order to effectively deliver anti-establishment ideologies in true punk rock fashion.
The rich themes of anti-establishment and anti-surveillance are quite abundant on “Soulless Machine,” harkening back to earlier works with those same rich themes, including George Orwell’s 1984 and Pink Floyd’s The Wall. Doval and Parada were clearly inspired by these earlier works, as evidenced by the storytelling on “Soulless Machine,” which features a woman trying to free herself from the social bondage of her surveillance state. This message is especially relevant today as both our contemporary society and Doval’s latest release touch on themes of media fragility and hyper-surveillance.
The themes depicted in “Soulless Machine” are only amplified in the accompanying music video that Doval and Parada released. Centering on television and the media, the music video follows Doval figuring out the hidden secrets of the fiction dystopian society that the music video takes place in. Again, there is an abundance of relevant themes in this music video that Doval and Parada want to help expose to the world.
Be sure to follow Patrick Doval on social media and don’t forget to check out Pete Parada and Doval playing together on “Soulless Machine” on your favorite streaming platform!
