Onwards Festival 2023 is heating up in Huddersfield with an exciting two-day celebration of music, art, and culture. Featuring top international and local talent, the festival is the perfect way to end the summer months. Day two of the festival has some unique and diverse offerings.
We were especially struck by the variety of musical performances taking place at Small Seeds, including a spectacular set of rituals and performances from African-based artist Thabo and the Huddersfield Ukrainian Singing Troupe. The fusion of Southern African and Ukrainian tradition is a mesmerising one that exposes us to a whole new musical landscape. Thabo is an extraordinary singer who has been trained in hip hop soul. He has gone on to collaborate with stars such as Idris Elba and Naughty Boy, creating a powerful blend of rhythm and soul. Thabo will be performing three separate sets exploring diverse African music traditions and merging them with more contemporary influences, making for an unforgettable experience. After this, the festival will move on to a larger venue, The Parish, for closing acts by The Smith Sisters and Mr. Wilson’s Second Liners.

This experimental duo will bring something truly unique to the festival with their mix of ‘90s rave and techno, played though the colourful sound of a New Orleans marching band. The combination of tracks, one-of-a-kind instruments, and their larger-than-life stage presence is guaranteed to get audiences in the party mood. Onwards Festival 2023 is sure to be a weekend to remember and Saturday and Sunday are looking especially exciting. Our minds are alive with curiosity and we can’t wait to see what the two-day event has in store! So if you’re in the area make sure to join us and come make a bit of history with us.
