Fast Money Music share their latest single, “Unfortunately”, out on Friday 16th January. The track offers a fresh look at the band’s sound ahead of their self-titled debut album, due this spring.
At the same time, the band have confirmed a London support show with Bass Drum of Death at Oslo Hackney on Friday 13th February.
A New Chapter for Fast Money Music
“Unfortunately” is a melodic and reflective indie track. It combines shimmering guitars with a steady rhythm. As a result, the song feels both open and restrained.
Musically, the track takes cues from The War On Drugs, New Order, and Orange Juice. However, it never feels like a copy. Instead, Fast Money Music shape those influences into something personal.
Lyrics Focused on Timing and Distance
Lyrically, “Unfortunately” explores emotional distance and missed timing. The song moves slowly, using images of the sea, moonlight, and quiet moments. Because of this, the mood remains gentle but tense.
At the centre of the track is a sense of emotional weight. Both voices carry things they cannot leave behind. Ultimately, the song sits between hope and hesitation.
Nick Hinman Explains the Track
According to Nick Hinman, the song reflects uncertainty rather than resolution.
“It’s my haunted reply to Rupert Holmes’ Escape (The Piña Colada Song),” he says. This time, however, the focus is on restraint and doubt. As a result, the story never settles into a clear ending.
Instead, the track looks at intuition and self-questioning. It also highlights how often people lose control to timing and circumstance.
How “Unfortunately” Was Made
The single was recorded at Hackney Road Studios and in Fast Money Music’s Dalston studio. Nick Hinman produced the track himself. Meanwhile, Mikko Gordon (The Smile, Arcade Fire) handled mixing and executive production.
In addition, Matt Colton (Depeche Mode, Arctic Monkeys) mastered the track. Guitar comes from Daniel Vildòsola (CMAT), while drums were played by Steffan Halperin (Klaxons).
Debut Album Out This Spring
“Unfortunately” appears on Fast Money Music’s debut album, set for release on 17th April 2026. The record was written across ten years. Therefore, it reflects different stages of life and emotion.
The album blends indie pop, post-punk, and jangly guitar music. Influences include The Cleaners from Venus, Guided by Voices, and ESG. Still, the final result feels cohesive and honest.
“The album feels very close to who I am,” says Hinman. “It’s built from memories, stories, and real moments.”
