Wednesday night was the first of a three-night residency at The Troubadour for Canadian rockers, The Broken Islands. The energy in the room was lifted by support act Joel Rothwell, who delivered with his band a 9 song set featuring explosive pop originals and a cover of New Rules by Dua Lipa.

A big contrast in style and genre, The Broken Islands took the stage at 10pm. The six-piece showed a versatile skill-set, swapping instruments within the first three songs along with haunting and powerful vocals from the lead singer which filled the room. The group amalgamate many different styles and genres from post-rock to shoegaze and trip-hop, their eclectic sound translated incredibly well live – overall an explosive and transcendent performance that had all audience members engaged.
