A New Era After “La Ritournelle”
Tellier’s timeless track La Ritournelle was released 20 years ago on Politics. It has become one of his most celebrated works. Recently, the song returned to the spotlight at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games opening ceremony. This performance confirmed once again his status as a visionary artist.
Throughout his career, Sébastien Tellier has moved with ease between pop, electronic, and folk. In doing so, he has left behind many cult classics such as Universe, L’Amour et la violence, Divine, and Cochon Ville.
About the Single “Refresh”
“Refresh” is an ode to renewal and rebirth. Tellier co-wrote it with his longtime collaborator Amandine de la Richardière. The track also includes contributions from SebastiAn and Oscar Holter (The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry).
The song blends sophisticated vocals with danceable energy. As a result, it reflects the tension between human and machine—a theme that has always shaped Tellier’s creativity.
Speaking about the track, Tellier said:
“It’s about renewal, rebirth, failures, and the ceaseless cycle of starting over. Like an animal shedding its skin, or like reprogramming software to survive inner chaos.”
A Striking Visual World
For the visual universe of “Refresh,” Tellier turned to Jean-Baptiste Mondino and artificial intelligence. Together, they created images that are both offbeat and refined. This style reflects the theme of transformation and raises the question: will the artist with the legendary beard ever part with it?
About Sébastien Tellier
We last saw him in 2020 with the album Domesticated. Since then, he has kept busy with three original film scores, two EPs, and several production projects. In addition, he delivered a stunning performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games with his timeless Ritournelle.
Twenty years earlier, Politics (2004) already established him as one of the most charismatic artists of the century. A gifted multi-instrumentalist, Tellier has explored pop, folk, and electronic music. His work has resulted in cult tracks like Roche, Fingers of Steel, and A Ballet. Meanwhile, his unmistakable style—long hair, sunglasses, and a dandy attitude—has led to collaborations with major fashion houses.
