Released on March 1st, “Lullaby For Our Daughters” by Michael Tinholme & Band of Legends make a call for peace. Having taken inspiration from International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, “Lullaby For Our Daughters” has been featured on broadcasts around the world and was even featured on BBC Radio, which is not surprising if you know anything a out Michael Tinholme. The Band of Legends is made up of Mike Garson on piano, Edwin Livingston on bass, Gary Novak on drums, Mike Miller on guitar, and Billy Steinway on keyboards, all of which are essential to this song’s wonderful sounds and amazing success.
“Lullaby For Our Daughters” has everything one could want in a jazz ballad. The tune opens with Garson’s solo piano before Tinholme enters with his silky smooth vocal lines that help to paint an intimate setting for the listener. The rest of the Band of Legends does not enter until the second verse and the group sits in the background so elegantly as to allow for Tinholme’s voice to be the center of attention. The piano accompaniment with Tinholme’s voice creates a pairing made in heaven, which then turns towards a solo section that gives the rest of the Band of Legends their rightful time to shine.
After the guitar and piano solos come to an end, Tinholme’s beautiful voice returns as if he is tucking the listener into bed as he says his goodbyes. Towards the end of the song, Tinholme and Garson especially begin to build in intensity until the rest of the Band of Legends disappears. After that, the intimate setting of piano and voice comes back in a conclusion that ties together the entirety of the song.
